Whether you're a journaller or gift wrapper extraordinaire, Autumn has some modern and fresh ideas for you. Cleverly using JOFY stems as decorative lines, she's come up with some inspirational ideas using quotes and brush lettering.
    ~ Keren

Hi everyone, it's Autumn Clark from SewPaperPaint with you today, and I'd like to share with you a fun way to use your JOFY flower stamps to set up your August planner/bullet journal pages.

I started out creating some DIY gift wrap for our Lines topic, but was sparked by the beautifully drawn lines in the stems of my flower stamps to go in another direction, and I had the most fun converting these stems into separators for my daily planner.  So today's post is a bit of a two in one.  Grab your cuppa and let's get on...

During quarantine I have been amusing myself by making my own gift wrap from copy paper.  Often I use my watercolor practice sheets, but I thought why not make some funky wrap to coordinate with the PaperArtsy JOFY Stamp Set (JOFY72).  My joy in this process is that 90% of my friends are stampers/artists and I hope they can re-purpose the gift wrap into a card or journal page.  So the gift keeps on giving plus there's no need to shop for wrapping!

I used my stamp platform to restamp the details in my flower after painting with PaperArtsy Fresco Chalk Acrylics in Bubble Gum, Prawn, Tangerine Twist and Banana.  I used a Sharpie and a Posca pen for further details.

I painted the reverse of my flower before fussy cutting and raised it on the package with a foam dot.  Isn't it the cutest "bow"?  I simply used a Sharpie to draw the striped lines on my copy paper and added a few dots to coordinate better with the whimsical flower.  I recently saw a video on wrapping gifts with too little paper and the trick is to wrap diagonally rather than square.  It makes the paper stretch further, perfect for copy paper designs!

After using the mushrooms in PaperArtsy JOFY Stamp Set (JOFY92) to make the little gift tag on my package, I saw just how beautiful the stems of were on their own and thought they would be perfect to set up my August bullet journal/planner pages.  I used a bit of washi tape to mask off the caps and stamped them directly into my book.

I looked at my collection of JOFY stamps and saw that there were beautiful lines in each set!  So I decided to make the entire month's planner pages in preparation to go back to work after quarantine.  I don't know about you, but every aspect of my life requires a little more concentration than before quarantine...  I hope using my planner will help me stay on task better.  Here I've used PaperArtsy JOFY Stamp Set (JOFY63).

One thing that I have found very relaxing and therapeutic during these stressful days has been to start daily practice to develop my brush lettering skills.  I grab my markers and notebook and doodle away while watching TV most evenings.  I picked up a new bullet journal for more "finished" pages.  These are my first attempts.  I'm very excited about the possibilities of combining stamps with letter art.

I find it such fun to think of new layouts and motivational quotes for each week's spread.  And coloring in my designs is super relaxing for me.

To finish, I created an August opening page by masking off the center of this beloved flower and doodling in a banner across.

I truly enjoyed just playing and know that you will enjoy seeing new lines and patterns from your PaperArtsy stamps too!  There are so many ways one can dissect a stamp and create multiple designs with it, regardless of its style.

Here's to more productive, stress free days with endless inspiration and creativity!

    Yours, Autumn Clark

Cool chickens need fine houses, and certainly these Zinksi dwellings complete with chickens are pretty perfect partners! Jenny has created a cool new technique that she explains in great detail. Lots of lovely lines highlighted so cleverly with ink too.
    ~ Keren

Hi everyone, it's Jenny (Pushing The Right Buttons) here today, and I'd like to share with you two large tags. They feature collaged images from two Zinski Art stamp sets that have been mounted on 'faux' Mother of Pearl backgrounds which incorporate both textural and visible lines to fit with the current theme.

That faux Mother of Pearl backgrounds was one of those 'happy accidents' that worked out so well I've put together a tutorial below to show you (and remind me!) how to achieve it in future. Let's get started.

You can see above how after 'Snowball' Izink ICE was applied over the painted paper lines were scored into the gel using a thin embossing tool.

I gave each of the four tags a different look using 'Thundercloud', 'Olive Drab', 'Cotton Candy' and 'Atlantis' Izink Pigment Inks, working them into the scored lines to make them stand out.

Above you can see the results of more play time with a 3x5 inch Gel Plate and some beautiful pastel shades of Fresco Finish Paints. I pulled the prints using tissue paper to create delicate layers.

I used a stamp platform to add the images from Zinski Art stamp set ZA40 onto pieces of the painted tissue, painting in some of the elements with the same paints before re-stamping to add back in the details. The various parts were then cut out and applied onto white card using collage medium.

At this point the plan was to put one of the houses on each of the four coloured tags but they looked a little lost on such big tags so I had a re-think and decided to use two houses on two of the tags. The backgrounds also seemed over-powering against the delicate collage houses so I applied layers of 'Cotton Candy', 'Olive Drab' and 'Stratosphere' Izink Pigment Inks on top ending with 'Opal Frost' Ink to give it back that shine, and, as it happens the look of Mother of Pearl!

Above you can see those scorelines through the gel, framed with some faux stitched lines using a tracing wheel and black gel pen.

After much deliberation I decided to keep things 'simple' by creating more collage elements to combine with the houses. These included little chickens from Zinski Art stamp set ZA57 and flowers from set ZA40.

You can see from the close ups of the finished tags above and below how the houses were mounted on the tag backgrounds using some dimensional tape. The chickens were glued onto them and the flowers flat onto the tags, chopping them along the edges to make them go further. A simple sentiment was added to each tag with the intention that they could be used in place of cards sometime in the future.

I hope you've enjoyed the tutorial and like the finished tags. As well as enjoying making those backgrounds I loved how all the Zinski Art images lent themselves so perfectly to collaging. Painting in the tinier details rather than attempting to cut each and ever part out by hand definitely saved time and effort. And surely the little chickens from the newest stamp set were made to go with those houses? If you haven't had fun combining them yourselves yet you'll find they are the perfect partners.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

    2024 #13 Using lines in composition with Kim Dellow Stamps {by Nikki Acton}

    2024 Topic 13: Lines

Sometimes simple cards can take more planning and design choices, and Nikki has taken a deceptively simple card which actually has lots of designed elements within. Nikki cleverly transforms some inexpensive plastic grid that we'll all be looking out for now.
    ~ Keren

Hi, Nikki here today, from Addicted to Art. For the theme of lines I decided to utilise various 'lines' to, hopefully, enhance the composition / layout of my card.

Composition in my artwork is really important to me - although sometimes I get it very wrong! Colour, positioning of items, focal points and tonal balance can all impact the overall design. The goal is for the eye to be drawn to the focal points and not get confused chasing elements around a page or being drawn out of the picture!

    现在怎么fq

I started with two initial line ideas - some of this grid material I have (had it ages -UK  Poundland I think!) and my inky highlighted folds in the background. But as it developed I also used the lines of numbers and the horizontal tag to bring it all together.

I first brayered some white card lightly with Sand and Chocolate Pudding Fresco Paints. I  used my score board to create lines on the reverse and then swept the edges and creases with Potting Soil Archival ink (any brown ink will do). I stamped the little circles from Kim Dellow stamp set EKD01 and the lines of numbers from France Papillon Stamp set FP002. However I did these later so I knew where to place them to build the composition.

I added some Chocolate Pudding paint to the plastic grid so there was more of contrast with the background and also added a little tissue paper underneath.

I used Distress Oxide (Peeled Paint) to colour some card which I used to stamp my flowers and little hedgehog from EKD01. I cut my little tag to frame my greeting (from EM18). This horizontal 'line' compliments the vertical lines of the the background, the flower stems and the stamped numbers.

A relatively simple card! But hopefully you can see how I used the various vertical and horizontal lines to create the composition.

    2024 Topic 13: Lines

Lynn created a seamless contrast of hard and soft lines and a wonderful vertical line of stamped images that draw your eye through the wonderfully coloured piece.
    ~ Keren

Hi everyone, it's Lynn Good (Memories on the Page) with you today, and I'd like to share with you an art journal page that I have created for this week's topic - Lines.
My Interpretation of lines, well for this one, I have created butterfly images in a vertical line and there are manually added pen lines around the background leaves.

I had no idea what I was going to do but I had just received this gorgeous Tracy Scott stamp and wanted to use that, and I wanted to challenge myself and use some cool colours with the warm colours.  I am not a cool colour person but loved how this came out.

I first applied white gesso to the page, I often do this when I have no idea what the page is going to do and at least I have some 'tooth' to play with.  But I decided to apply Paper Artsy Paints - Gumboots and China with a make up sponge through Stencil PS123 - this created the leaves in the background.

I then stamped the butterfly image from Tracy Scott's stamp ETS39 onto tissue and adhered it to the page at the top and bottom in a line.  I was not fussy; a little ripped here and there but that was fine.

    现在怎么fq

    现在怎么fq

I then painted around the area of the butterfly in Snowflake Paper Artsy Paint to blend it all together.

I have used a black marker to roughly highlight around all the petals and stamped around the images with Tracy's mini stamp EM57 in black ink.

Now I was happy with the background - onto the focal point.  I have used the same stamp (ETS39) and stamped it onto Heavy Smoothy cardstock and fussy cut out.

Using Paper Artsy paints - Cherry Red, Coral, Yellow Submarine, Slimed, Orchid and Bubblegum I have coloured the image.

I have added highlights with coloured pencil - both fluorescent and plain.  I find the Paper Artsy Paints and coloured pencils (I used Prima Colour) blend beautifully.

Finally I added the title from Stamp ESN45 - again stamping on tissue and then adhering to the page. Here are some close ups:

I hope that you have enjoyed this process; one of my favourites, stamping onto tissue and when it doesn't come out right, that is fine, it blends to be part of the page.
